We are an Edmonton based photography studio specializing in Maternity, Newborn, Milestone, and Children Portraiture. At Sweet Hugs Photography, we create beautiful and timeless images for you and your family.
Maternity Information
The best time to schedule a maternity session is between 30-35 weeks of pregnancy and can be done here, at our studio, or outdoors. We encourage partners and siblings to be a part of it, as this is an important time in their life as well. A maternity session lasts around one hour (depending on the package you choose and what your needs are) and we emphasize on your beautiful baby belly. Outdoor sessions are scheduled in the evening hours, about an hour or so before sunset, to get the stunning evening light. So, please keep this in mind if you have little ones you would like to include. In –studio sessions have “fine art” editorial look. We recommend having a professional makeup and hair done before coming for your appointment. You will have access to our collection of maternity dresses.
Newborn Information

Newborn sessions are best scheduled within the first 14 days of birth. At this age, babies are still very sleepy and easy to go to poses you see on our website. All newborn sessions are done in our studio. Please, check our blog to see more information and pictures of our professional studio. Due to the custom nature of a session, we only book a few newborns per month, so it is best to reserve your date 3 months in advance ($200 deposit is required). Newborn sessions are scheduled mid morning, around 10 a.m, and last around 3 hours, depending on the baby and the package you choose. Our studio is open Monday to Thursday. Weekend appointments available. (add $100). As soon as your baby arrives, we ask that you call us within 48 hours so we can choose a date for you, ideally before your baby is 14 days old. By pre-booking your session, you not only guarantee your session, but also get a priority in the schedule over a potential clients who call to book after they had a baby.
Milestone Information
These sessions are all about capturing the sweet milestones that happen in the first year of your baby’s life! Milestone sessions are best scheduled after the baby turns 6,7 months or when she/he can sit unassisted. The sessions are done at our professional studio, but if weather permits, we can do them outside as well. We focus on these little details that you want to remember forever: first giggles, first teeth, first steps, snuggles, kisses, little toes and little hands. Turning one is a major milestone not only for your baby, but for you as a parent as well. You have made it through the first year of babyhood! This calls for a celebration with cake smash session! For a baby, celebrating in their birthday suit is the best, and it makes for easy clean-up after the session is done. However, if preferred, baby can wear an outfit too.
Sweet Hugs Photography will not provide a cake for the session due to (potential) allergies and potential liability. For customized smash cakes, please contact your baker well in advance, to ensure your cake order is reserved, and will be ready for the date. Choose a cake that is easily smashable and has vanilla or light-colored cake inside. Beware of bright and colorful icings that might stain teeth or clothing as well. Note that cakes with red icing when smashed will look like blood, and chocolate will look like dirt! Stay away from fondant, as this might be a chocking hazard. Please, note that not all babies end up LOVING the cake or the texture of it. One way to help them prepare is to let them try with a cupcake of similar frosting, so that it isn’t so new to them on their cake smash session. Babies are often hesitant to try new tastes and textures, and this is one way to help them become familiar with it ahead of time.
The first year in a baby’s life is incredible special. Filled with big milestones and little moments, each more precious than the next. Having a milestone session is the perfect way to treasure and share these memories!
